Congratulations to the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner

During this year's commencement ceremony, three Concordia alumni received awards for both their dedication to their profession and to the ministry of CLHS. They were honored during a special recognition banquet held the previous night at Pine Valley Country Club.

Dr. Richard Pierce II received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for demonstrating an ongoing dedication to Christian principles and the church, with both lifetime and personal achievement. After graduating from Concordia in 1981, Richard received his B.A. at Valparaiso University and went on to earn his M.A. from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his Ph.D from Indiana University. A member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1996, Dr. Pierce specializes in African American, Urban, and Civil Rights history, examining social and political protest in urban environments.

Annette Diemer, class of 1959, is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, honoring a record of dedicated support, activity and service to the ministry of Concordia. Upon graduation, Annette began a career at Lutheran Social Services of Indiana that spanned 50 years. Concordia Lutheran High School named Indiana Four Star School

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz announced Indiana’s 4 Star schools for 2013 today. In order to achieve this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in ISTEP+ testing results. A total of 313 schools received the award throughout the state.

Superintendent Ritz congratulated these schools today. “I am honored to name these schools as our Four Star Schools for this year,” said Ritz. “Winning this award required excellent work by teachers, administrators, students and parents throughout the year and on behalf of the entire Indiana Department of Education I send them my sincere congratulations.”
