Nathaniel Bryan, a graduating senior at Concordia Lutheran High School, has been announced as a recipient of the Presidential Scholars award by the U.S. Department of Education. He is one of 161 students nationally, and one of two in the state of Indiana, to receive the honor for the 2023-2024 school year.
"It's a big honor to receive this award," Bryan said. "I really wanted to make everyone proud of me and my family is very happy for me. I've worked hard as a student at Concordia and it has really paid off."
According to the U.S. Department of Education, scholars are selected based on criteria such as academic success, excellence in the arts and in technical education, essays, evaluations and transcripts, as well as demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.
"Concordia Lutheran High School is very proud of Nathaniel Bryan on being announced as a 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholar," said Concordia Principal Patrick Frerking. "His dedication and prowess as a learner are reflected by the many achievements he has attained, including outstanding academic grades and SAT scores. Nathan's selection as a U.S. Presidential Scholar also reflects Concordia's high academic program provided by our outstanding faculty. God's blessings to Nathan as he continues his studies at university and all that God has planned for him."
Presidential Scholars Program has honored over 8,200 of the nation's top-performing students. The program was expanded in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, literary and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. 2024 is the program’s 60th anniversary.
The Presidential Scholars Class of 2024 will be recognized for their outstanding achievement this summer with an online recognition program.
