Adapting to our new normal

June is here and we are in the middle of returning to our new normal. Everyone is excited, if maybe a little cautious, to get out and about.

I was so excited for the restaurants to open! I couldn't wait to go out to eat again for the first time after the stay at home order! I've never cooked that many days in a row and eating in the car? Well, I ruined whatever I was wearing because apparently I'm a messy eater in the car!

I could go on and on about what I missed or was frustrated with while at home. I missed and was frustrated because I couldn't be with my students, my church, Concordia and all of my colleagues, or do what I wanted, but I will stop there because I also saw God working and I am ever so grateful for that.

I saw people praying for people they didn't even know. Facebook was (and still is as I write this) filled with prayer requests with hundreds of people promising to pray. I saw doctors and nurses FaceTiming the families of loved ones because they couldn't visit — on their own time. I saw people healed, and I saw families come together virtually and creatively to support each other. I even saw ding-dong-ditch become a good thing!

God showed his presence through all of these things and more. Therefore, I know, whatever the new normal is for us going forward, God is with us. He is always with us. So, whatever school looks like this coming year and whatever curves come our way, God will be with us.

Joshua 1:9 tells us: “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

(Now, a side note for all of my students: I miss you and I can't wait to see you this fall!)
