This time of year, with St. Patrick’s Day, it gets me feeling nostalgic about my 1/8 Irish heritage.
The festive “Shenanigans Coordinator” shirt that I wanted to buy last week was sold out so I had to settle for the “Lucky” shirt instead. Which got me thinking about the word “lucky.” What does God think about luck? Lucky verses blessed, what is the difference?
Well, if you are lucky then the idea is that it happened by chance and that you were at the right place at the right time. Blessed, on the other hand, wasn’t by chance it was done intentionally through God’s will for your life. Now that’s a nice thought -- that every time I feel blessed about something, I can think that God purposely meant for that to happen to me. There are so many families that I talk to that just kind of happened upon Concordia Lutheran High School because a friend or family member mentioned something, or they were making random calls to schools, or they were in the building for a camp or event. They talk about how blessed they were that their student or students were able to attend Concordia because they thought it would be too expensive, but God always provided. Were they just lucky…no blessed! Is God calling you to encourage anyone to check out the CLHS family?
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
I will still wear my green this week, but I do need to shop for a new shirt that says “Blessed” instead.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Shine On,
