The Concordia Lutheran High School Chamber Choir “Maroon Standard” was named the 2022 Honor Choir - State Champions in the 6th Annual Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) State Jazz Finals on Friday, March 18 at Franklin Central High School. This highly prestigious event featured the finest eight vocal jazz ensembles in the state of Indiana as determined by their State Qualifying round scores from four regional sites.
Making the State Finals is a tremendous honor and validates the exceptional quality of the top groups from across the state. In true “Hoosiers” form, there are no school size distinctions in ISSMA jazz contest, so small schools compete against the largest schools/programs in the state! Concordia’s Chamber Choir “Maroon Standard” ensemble has qualified for the jazz state finals every year that it has been offered, solidifying Concordia’s program annually as one of the elite eight in the state regardless of school size!
The “Maroon Standard” vocal jazz ensemble competed against seven other top jazz choirs by performing a three song set of music for three national recognized judges. The contest judges hail from collegiate and professional musical careers across the country. Concordia’s group was recognized with the following top honors/Award:
- Outstanding Soloist - Nathan Zeckzer 2022 Best Bass Section
- 2022 Honor Choir - State Champions!
“We had an amazing opportunity and result on Friday! What an incredible blessing! I am so proud of these students, the work they’ve put in, and the legacy that has gone before them. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow," said Tavis Schlicker, Director of Choral Activities at CLHS.
“I am speechless. I am so proud and blessed to be part of this group! I cannot believe we are the 2022 State Vocal Jazz Winners!! I love you all,” said senior Lizzie Hobby.
