Alumni Spotlight: Ken Finner '75

What is your current occupation?
Ken currently works as a floor layer doing Roller Rinks, Stages and Gyms, including the work on Concordia's gym floor replacement. He does this work all over the world while being based out of Fort Wayne. He has been working to hand lay and hand paint the floor and the graphics for Concordia's gym.

What led you to your current occupation?
Right after graduating in 1975, Ken started out by building roller skates and then started working during the summer to put in floors. Along the way, he learned the tricks of the trade, including how to install and paint floors. He said that at the end of this year he will have laid 16 million square feet of hardwood.

How does it feel to be the one to install Concordia's gym floor?
"This is an honor for me," said Ken, who remembers gym class and grappling on the mats as a wrestler on the gym floor. "I can't explain it. It's a great honor."

What did you love most about CLHS?
"Atmosphere -- being here is a family. I'm still in contact with my classmates."

What advice would you pass along to students?
"What was told to me is that you got to treat every job like it's yours. Treat it like your own."
