Teachers: What we did this summer

Mrs. Mindy Walz, English Teacher
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary by traveling to Stratford, Ontario for a few days. We saw Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well and the musical Chicago. I also helped find an awesome English teacher (Mrs. Tietz), read books (both professional reading and reading for pleasure), did house projects, went to a family reunion, helped with VBS at my church (I taught the 3 year-olds), enjoyed outside with my family, and worked on school planning.

Miss Heidi Wilkinson, Physics Teacher
I took a trip to Vail, CO, visited with family, helped lay the new gym floor, hosted Rocket Science Camp, and worked on a bunch of house projects.

Mr. Tavis Schlicker, Choir Director
Schlickers spent a week recharging at a Christian family camp in Texas, had a family reunion on Lake Ontario near Niagara Falls, and I led two reading sessions at the Indiana Choral Directors Conference. Also, our basement flooded.

Deaconess Dr. Deborah Rockrohr, Theology Teacher
I reclaimed my formerly neglected garden; for the first time ever we had two of our grandsons visiting us for a week without their parents; we spent time with all of our grandchildren at different times throughout the summer and welcomed our 10th grandchild, Benjamin, on June 29 (I was blessed to be able to carry him into church for the first time when he was 5 days old); vacationed on Washington Island, WI; built a picnic table from scratch with my husband; drove a pickup from Twentynine Palms CA to family members in Wisconsin for our son and his wife as he has been posted overseas for the next three years with the military; and my book review of "Sanctified Sisters: A History of Protestant Deaconesses" by Jennifer Wiley Legath was published in the Summer 2022 issue of Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly.

Mr. Tim LaCroix, German Teacher
For Father's Day, my brothers and I went hot air ballooning with our 85 year old father. Then my wife and I travelled through 5 countries in Europe (Luxemburg, Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland) and spent great time with our daughter (Victoria, CLHS '10) and son-in-law, who live in Switzerland.

Ms. Pam Rusher, PE & Health Teacher
I worked and worked and worked.

Mrs. Krista Koch, Math Teacher
We went hiking in Hocking Hills State Park (Ohio).
We went boating with friends at Dale Hollow (Kentucky/Tennessee)
We enjoyed lots of family time.  We had both of our mothers at our house for a week with all of the children and our beautiful granddaughter visiting at various times.
We babysat our granddaughter!!!!
The Koehlers taught us how to play pickleball!  We love it!
We went canoeing on the rivers of Fort Wayne.

Ms. Karen Johnson, Guidance Secretary
Many don't know that there is a group of Concordia Staffers that work all summer long. CLHS seems like a different place in the summer. Usually, it's a lot quieter in the summer barring a few athletic camps. This year the noise level was a little higher with the construction of the new gym floor, but it was interesting watching the progress. If we happened to be in the academic wing, we could check on the progress of the updates to the Study Center. The custodial staff was at work cleaning rooms and waxing floors in preparation for the new year. Office staff kept busy closing out the previous school year and preparing for the next while setting up the new student information system.

Mrs. Darcy Lugo, Spanish Teacher
Eva and I took a trip to visit my sister in D.C. We visited a few of the Smithsonian museums and the Hirshhorn, along with a WNBA game. We went to trapeze school and I had the chance to visit some former students who are living in the area!

Mr. Andy Morris, History Teacher
Spent July at the lake in Ohio with my family, took a group of 40 parents and students to London and Paris, and revamped my U.S. History curriculum.

Mrs. Luanne Erdos, Business Teacher
Tennis, lots of reading, lunch dates with friends, and Beach time in South Carolina along with time in Charleston!

Mrs. Katie Underwood, Art Teacher
I went to an AP conference, we went to Florida for a family vacation, and sent my son Vincent to Camp Lutherhaven for the first time.
