Porath Named Concordia's Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Porath for being named this year's recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award during our final Chapel service of the year! This award is given yearly to recognize the CLHS teacher of the year. Mrs. Porath serves our high school as director of bands and this year served as the director of the A Cappella choir.

Here are some of the many positive comments from students and staff, regarding Mrs. Porath, which were collected during the nomination process:

Student: Everyday this teacher finds something new for us to work on and improve - which we do!

Student: This teacher holds their students to high standards and expects nothing less than 100% from everyone, and helps us to understand that we should not expect anything less than 100% from ourselves.

Teacher: [My colleague and friend] leads by faith. Their faith and trust in God is so apparent. All that they do is done with grace, faith, organization, and a positive attitude.

Student: We are constantly reminded by this teacher that we perform not that we may have the glory, but so that we can give God the glory through our talents and abilities.

Student: This teacher has always been a huge role model for me! She never fails to make her faith the center of her life.

Teacher: This Teacher has a natural love for students and pours her heart and soul into both them and the fine arts activities in which she leads. She is affirming to all students, leads by example and is an excellent role model, especially for all the young women in fine arts.  She shows what it takes to be a full time church worker and maintain and build programs in our school.

Student: She has embodied the motto of Concordia’s Fine Arts, Soli Deo Gloria - To God Alone Be the Glory. Everything she does points us to Christ. She provides us with words of wisdom and prayer - and it’s clear that she’s doing all of this because of Christ. She is a light and a blessing to our Concordia community as the director of our bands, and this year, the added responsibility of the A Cappella Choir, and she remains humble through it all.
