Alumni Spotlight: Rev. Mike Wakeland

I serve as the Director of Pastoral Care at Lutheran Life Villages.  In this position, I oversee the work of the chaplains at our six locations, and provide for the spiritual care of our residents, their families and the over five hundred members of our staff.

I attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Concordia High School (Class of 1974). After high school I graduated from Concordia Jr. College, Ann Arbor, Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska, and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne.

I have been married to my wife Cathie for 46 years and we have two children; David, and Julia.

Prior to serving at Lutheran Life Villages, my wife and I served as a missionaries with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod World Missions in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Guadalajara, Mexico. I returned to Fort Wayne in 2001 and served at Praise Lutheran Church and New Life Lutheran Church.

While at CLHS one of my greatest interests was photography, working with the yearbook staff for four years, and being co-editor with Judy Kohlmeyer our senior year. Many of my great memories of my time at Concordia are being at the CLHS events and activities and capturing images of fellow students that reflect those moments in time.

I thank the many teachers that I had at CLHS for being amazing examples of the many ways to serve God and other people.  My advice to the current generation of Cadets is to seek out ways to serve wherever God may lead you.
