Light Bulb Moment

I had a light bulb moment a few Sundays ago. I love that even in my 50’s I can learn and
discover new things. These moments don’t come as often as they used to, but they do still
happen! This particular light bulb happened during our pastor’s sermon on forgiveness and
when it happened, I actually felt a little shame I had never realized it before. Are you ready to
know? Are you sitting down?

The word GIVE is in the middle of the word FORGIVENESS.

Even as I was contemplating this stunning revelation, the pastor elaborated on the gift of
forgiveness we have in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Forgiveness of our sins has nothing to do with
us. We don’t earn it and it is certainly not something we deserve. It is a gift of love; a love that
transcends our human understanding. I confess I don’t fully appreciate no matter how many
times I sin, I am forgiven. God’s love is truly amazing.

As we continue through the penitential season of Advent on our way to the manger in
Bethlehem, this time of year has been referred to as the “season of giving”. The rush to find
gifts for our loved ones, baking yummy treats, family parties, and all of the activities we enjoy
at this time of year can easily distract us from the gift that truly matters. The gift of the baby
born in such a humble way who would one day give His life as a ransom for many. Not because
He had to, but because He wanted to. His sacrificial gift grants us eternal life. A life filled with
joy, peace, and love.

I pray that the peace of Christ fills your hearts and minds during the coming weeks and that the
light of His love shines brightly upon you. Merry Christmas, Cadet family!
