Every day Concordia has 800-plus students, teachers, and staff cycle through the cafeteria in four separate lunch sittings to feed the school community. At the end of every lunch period we as a community stand and pray, “Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, and His mercy endures forever. Amen.” In this goodness and mercy, I give thanks for our kitchen and custodial staff who prepare the meals, clean the tables, floors and dishes, every day. Likewise, I am thankful for the wonderful people of God who minister at Concordia as secretaries, assistants, nurses, and directors.
In addition to the work of our support staff, I give thanks to God for the entire community of Concordia Lutheran High School.
Thanks be to God for the learning and conversation ongoing between students and teachers. We are in the grind of the school year as classroom routines are set, with homework and projects are in full swing. Quarter 1 grades seem a long time ago, and soon, we will be preparing and writing Semester 1 exams. I am thankful for the prayers of our faculty and students for wisdom, knowledge, and faith.
Beyond the classroom, Concordia has much to be thankful for as our co-curricular programs have had an excellent fall season. Marching Band took 8th at State! Students singing in the National Honors Choir at Concordia University Nebraska. Our one-act Sorry, Wrong Number, performing at the state thespians competition. And the long list of sports success: Soccer, Cross Country, Tennis, Volleyball, and Football. Thanks be to God for the gifts and talents He has given to each of us. I am thankful for the many hours of work, witness, and prayer our coaches and directors give to our students that deepen relationships and community.
Giving Thanks,
Patrick Frerking
