FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Lt Col (Ret) John T. Farquhar has been named this year’s LTG General John Moellering Hall of Honor inductee.
A 1976 Concordia Lutheran High School graduate, Farquhar served in the U.S. Air Force following his graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was a navigator in the RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft with the 38th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, Strategic Air Command.
He amassed 4,600 flying hours in the Cold War and more recently in operations to monitor Iraq and Bosnia. He also served as director, Wing Plans for the 55th Wing at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska where he coordinated worldwide readiness, operational and contingency planning for the largest flying wing in Air Combat Command. In 1999 he served as the U.S. European Command Theater Reconnaissance scheduler for Operation Allied Force.
He holds a master’s degree in U.S. diplomatic history from Creighton University and a Ph.D. in American military history from The Ohio State University. He specialized in airpower history. He served as the deputy head for military history at the Air Force Academy, and he is currently serving as an associate professor in military strategic studies at the Air Force Academy.
He and his wife Millie have three children, Johnny, Kirsten and Luke.
The Hall of Honor award was established in 1989 by members of the JROTC Officers Club to recognize CLHS alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their chosen profession. It is named in honor of LTG John H. Moellering, a 1955 graduate, in recognition of his long and distinguished career with the U.S. Army.
Farquhar will be honored at the annual JROTC Officers Ball on April 28.
