Hello Concordia,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! May this school year be filled with excitement and blessings as we grow through service in faith, intellect, and community.
New school years are exciting and nervous events. Where are my classes located? Who is near my locker and can I successfully operate the combination lock? What is Mr./Ms./Mrs. Teacher going to be like? God is with us. Each of us are His child: precious, loved, forgiven. The faculty and staff of Concordia are here to help educate and care for all of our community members. Our theme this school year is Abide … with Christ at the Center, based upon John 8:31-32, “Jesus said, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
Our teachers and staff have been getting ready for the many high school students attending Concordia Lutheran High School this school year. Wednesday, August 15 is the New Student Orientation, and August 16 starts the academic school year with the first day of classes and the Parents Back-to-School event the same evening. God’s promise of hope, love and forgiveness is present, and will be exercised daily, in this school community. Join us and please pray for our school community.
Concordia has slightly adjusted its daily schedule 2018-19 daily schedule (pdf) this year, based on feedback from faculty, students and parents. We continue with a modified block rotating schedule with longer class periods on most school days, and providing dedicated times for students to meet with teachers for academic help independent from a class period. Students and parents will find on their OnCampus dashboard, a personalized time schedule given which day of the rotation they are on. Students also have access to the CLHS Students calendar in their Google Calendar/Email apps. We continue with a single lunch period of 45 minutes this year, with provides time for students to meet with teachers in office hours, conduct club and activity meetings, complete homework with friends, and occasionally meet with their church pastors/youth group leaders for a pizza lunch.
Please note these highlights in the 2018-19 Daily Schedule:
- A Days - Academic classes begin at 8:45 AM with faculty meetings occurring earlier. Doors to the Academic Wing open at 8:30 AM on A Days.
- B Days - Academic classes begin at 8:45 AM with student/teacher Office Hours for academic help and student clubs/activities meeting. Doors to the Academic Wing open at 7:35 AM on B Days.
- C Days - Chapel
- D Days - Koinonia, followed by Focus Time. Focus Time is a quiet 20 minute period for individual student study. Clubs and Activities do not meet during Focus Time.
- E Days - All 8 class periods meet
- Lunch is 45 minutes every day
- 10 minute pass periods between all academic classes

This past week Concordia welcomed the 11 Chinese students from our sister-school, Concordia Dalian (China) International High School. The students have been busy this past week with their host families and Mr. Joshua Sommermeyer establishing courses, uniforms, lockers and other school matters, along with “life logistics” such as bank and mobile phone accounts. Many thanks to the numerous host families who will provide — and receive — a rich cultural and life changing experience with the exchange students this school year. A huge Thank You to Mr. Sommermeyer for his tremendous work in welcoming and leading orientation events for the 11 Chinese students before this academic year begins.
Join me in prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the community of education, service and faith that is Concordia Lutheran High School. I ask for your guidance and blessing on the 2018-19 school year that it may bear fruit of knowledge, understanding, and commitment in and through you. May your love, forgiveness, and peace be exercised and experienced by every student, teacher, and staff member at Concordia. Amen.
Go Concordia!
