Getting an in-depth experience through internships

On Thursday, November 28, the fall career internship seniors hosted a mentor appreciation event in the CLHS Cafeteria. The purpose of this event was to gather parents, mentors and students together for an evening of student reflections regarding their many and varied experiences from internship and to publicly thank their mentors for guidance and support along the way.

Learning takes on a new look for students on internship. Students experience the world of work in their chosen career field of interest. Working alongside a mentor enables the student to experience firsthand what it would be like to be in such a profession. Students were all over the City of Fort Wayne. Some of the locations included Grinsfelder Associates Architects, Inc., Parkview Regional Medical Center, 3rd District Congressional Office, Challenge Tool and Manufacturing, Beacons of Light Dance Studio, Allen County Adult Probation, Ivy Tech Community College, Blue Pony, Shadowlands Photography, Walgreens Pharmacy, and many more.

A student remarked at the reception, "The internship has given me an experience that is irreplaceable. I have been given a stepping stone into a field I would like to pursue. I met many professionals beside my mentor while on internship as well. This has helped me build connections and references for the future."

The Career Internship program is a Core 40 directed elective for seniors and can also be used as an Academic Honors elective. The program director is Mrs. Luanne Erdos.
