The Lutheran Foundation has awarded $195,000 to help local Lutheran schools students, including those at Concordia Lutheran High School.

It is hard to believe, but we have already completed the first month of this school year. Our Cadets’ sports teams are well into the fall season. Marching Band have completed their first competition. Seniors are busy with college applications. Our visiting students from Madrid, Spain have one week remaining of their studies at Concordia. Mr. Thom and Mr. Sommermeyer have returned from a very successful and exciting visit to our sister-school in Dalian, China. And we have a new daily time schedule.

OK — Here is something we don't talk about very often, but your health could depend on it: Preparedness.

Concordia Lutheran High School’s alumni mentor program kicks off this year on Sept. 14 with a group of CLHS returning to talk about social work.

I am calling on you to be like MGA Entertainment and Disrupt the Pink Aisle by repackaging the CS concept. Our lady Cadets need to know that CS is an exciting, creative, collaborative, in-demand and high paying career field. They need to know that CS is part of every industry from marine biology to fashion design. They need to know that CS is looking for women like education seeks male elementary teachers. They need to know they can be a creator of the future opposed to just its consumer.

In its fourth year of existence, the Concordia Lutheran High School Honors Academy is now seeing full implementation with all four grades represented in the 44-member program, including five new freshmen this fall.

Robin Pease and Rick Hanauer have been named the head girls golf coach and head boys tennis coach for Concordia Lutheran High School, respectively.

This year’s show is titled: “Eve.” The show begins with the perfection that was the Garden of Eden. We open up our show with a breathtakingly gorgeous piece called “The Engulfed Cathedral” by Claude Debussy. Then comes temptation and our temptor, musically represented by the percussion section, as they move to destroy the perfection that is Eden. The temptation continues with a blistering tango, started by a saxophone quartet, followed by the whole band. By the end of the movement, Eve has fallen into temptation and Eden has been destroyed. The show comes to a conclusion with Bjork’s “Overture” to the film “Dancer in the Dark.”

So the question most often asked this time of year to anyone associated with formal schooling is “How is the school year going?” Certainly, I’ve been asked variations of that question many times over the last two weeks.
