Ring in the holiday season with Concordia Lutheran High School’s annual Christmas at the Embassy at 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Historic Embassy Theatre.

On November 29, the nation celebrates Giving Tuesday. What an awesome way to demonstrate giving and thankfulness. Our Concordia family is so blessed because it has faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and grandparents that truly care about the overall well being of the students and providing that Christ-centered education and experience. I encourage you to consider contributing to the Concordia family this Giving Tuesday. Praise the Lord, give thanks to the Lord and bless others!!

As we signed up for posting to the new CLHS blog I was flooded with ideas to write about. I’ve got about four blog posts “started” with ideas, notes, links, fragments, etc. to keep the creative juices flowing. It wasn’t until about four hours ago that this post was started.

Every day Concordia has 800-plus students, teachers, and staff cycle through the cafeteria in four separate lunch sittings to feed the school community. At the end of every lunch period we as a community stand and pray, “Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, and His mercy endures forever. Amen.” In this goodness and mercy, I give thanks for our kitchen and custodial staff who prepare the meals, clean the tables, floors and dishes, every day. Likewise, I am thankful for the wonderful people of God who minister at Concordia as secretaries, assistants, nurses, and directors.

This fall the Honors Academy students are busy hitting the road as they visit various schools both in state and out of state. While the Honors Academy is in its third year of formation with nine freshmen, sixteen sophomores and eleven juniors, each class of students has a different focal point for their fall trips.

Matt Konow, executive director at Cross Connections, will be the featured speaker during the students’ lunches on Nov. 17. He will speak about running a successful non-profit organization and his approach to Christ-centered counseling.

Nov. 3 and 4 were our Endowed Scholarship Luncheons. We had more than 90 donors and 200-plus students for lunch and sharing. The donors met the students their endowment supported. Students, hopefully, learned that financial aid doesn’t come from an ATM or a benign being but from a real person who truly is interested in their success in life.

Happy Reformation Day! October 31, 1517, is a day that many, if not all, Protestants remember and appreciate.

I am the mother of four children, and my oldest is a senior here at CLHS. Having a senior is the beginning of the “next” parenting phase. This phase is where we encourage (somewhat reluctantly) our child to begin preparing for adulthood.
