OK, here is something we heard over and over on the news the past weeks as we watch folks in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas prepare to evacuate their homes or to ride out the storms without electricity or water. Being Prepared!!!

I have two classrooms. One is fairly standard: tables, chairs, whiteboard, lab stations, lights, fans, and wifi. The other has trees. Lots and lots of trees – not to mention a greenhouse, pond, raised vegetable beds, and the occasional groundhog. This second classroom is the four acres of old-growth forest to the north of the parking lot. It is the Our Creator’s Classroom, the OCC.

Concordia Lutheran High School will learn about event planning from Holly (Gray) Raney during the first Alumni Mentor program lunch of the year on Sept. 16.

These new freshmen are: Matthew Bordner, Cam Cage, Grant Hayworth, Dakota Hitzemann, Amy Liñan, Charlotte Loechner, Eli Mattox, Max Park, Hannah Weber and Keller Whicker. They join the current 8 seniors, 5 juniors and 18 sophomores.

“How Great Thou Art” is the title of our Marching Band Show this year. It uses Michelangelo's awe inspiring artwork from within The Sistine Chapel to encourage and define our own walk of faith. Original music by Alex Yoder takes us on a journey of discovery, reflection and celebration as we explore the ultimate spiritual connection!

All 5th through 8th grade students are invited to a free Cadet football game at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at Zollner Stadium.

When I hear people say, “Schools should teach Home Ec,” all I can say is, “We’re doing it!” Home Ec, now known as Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), goes beyond baking cookies to teaching practical skills and career pathways.

On Monday, August 12, a group of twenty or so faculty and staff members gathered together to have a prayer walk. We started in prayer together and then dispersed around the building and grounds. Each person had names of fellow faculty and staff members and names of students to pray for by name. Together, we prayed for our whole student body and the teachers and staff who serve at Concordia.

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! May this school year be filled with excitement and blessings as we grow through service in faith, intellect, and community. New school years are exciting and nervous events. Where are my classes located? Who is near my locker and can I successfully operate the combination lock? What is Mr./Ms./Mrs. Teacher going to be like? God is with us. Each of us is His child: precious, loved, forgiven.
